Why can't I upload a photo?

Most upload problems come down to the file itself or the content of the photo.

Technical requirements: photos must be JPG or PNG, at least 400x400 pixels, and larger than thumbnail size. If your file is a different format or too small, it will be rejected before it appears on your profile.

Content requirements: all profile photos must show the account owner, fully clothed, and must not be suggestive, even mildly. Shirtless photos, photos focused on cleavage or the backside, and offensive poses or gestures are not allowed. Your primary photo in particular must be of you, not someone else.

There's no separate preapproval step. Just upload a photo that meets the requirements and it will go live, though moderators may review it later.

You can manage your photos on the Edit photos page.

If one of your photos was removed and you believe that was a mistake, see I think a photo removal was unfair, can I have it restored?.
