Why do Push Notifications keep turning off?

This article is for members who already use Cuddle Comfort as an app from their phone's Home Screen. For setup steps, read Do you have an App?.

Push Notifications work through the app version of Cuddle Comfort, which is the icon you saved to your phone's Home Screen. To keep them working, always open Cuddle Comfort from that icon and enable Push Notifications there.

If you later open Cuddle Comfort in a normal browser tab, such as Safari, Chrome, or Brave, the Push Notification setting may look different. That's because the browser tab and the saved app can behave like two separate copies of Cuddle Comfort.

What to do

  1. Close any normal browser tabs where Cuddle Comfort is open.
  2. Open Cuddle Comfort from the icon on your phone's Home Screen.
  3. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  4. Turn Push Notifications on. You should receive a test notification when setup succeeds.
  5. Stay logged in to your account in the app.

Message push notifications are not sent for every message. We may skip one if the message has already been read by the time the notification is due, or if you already have a recent unread message from the same person. If push cannot be sent reliably, we may send email as a backup.

For iPhone

On iPhone, Push Notifications must be enabled from the Home Screen app version of Cuddle Comfort. If you check the setting in Safari, Chrome, or Brave instead, it may not show the same Push Notification status.

On iPhone, a message notification you already dealt with on another device may stay visible for a while. Opening Cuddle Comfort from your Home Screen icon, then opening Messages or the relevant conversation, should clear old message notifications.

You can also check your iPhone notification settings:

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Find Cuddle Comfort.
  4. Make sure notifications are allowed.

For Android

On Android, open Cuddle Comfort from the installed app icon and enable Push Notifications from there. If you use more than one browser, such as Chrome and Brave, each browser may behave separately.

You can also check your Android notification settings:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Find Cuddle Comfort, or the browser you used to install it.
  4. Make sure notifications are allowed.

Still having trouble?

If the Push Notifications toggle still appears to turn off, first check whether you're still receiving notifications before turning it back on.
